Space Movies and Television

This is a link to Earth Defense: http://earthdefence1.blogspot.com/

One of the major problems I have with such movies as independence day and War of the Worlds. Is the depiction of the people of Earth preserving when logically speaking, such victory’s are extremely far fetched. Are we the people of Earth putting our future survival in a low probability of survival? Are we going to say lets keep the probability of survival low, because that's magical? I wonder how many people think that Earth Defense is a bad idea?
In reality when a race crosses vast distances of space with a huge amount of resources, they usually send out scouts and probes ahead to study the atmosphere and the inhabitants. They asses such things as military might and the races probable capabilities. No mistakes must be made with such a vast amount of resources invested in a military campaign that in some cases, takes hundreds of years to carry out. Such is the case with Conquest Planet Hopping, when a race goes from one planet to the next with the objective of obtaining as many new planets as possible. The whole idea in War of the Worlds is an alien race using people as fertilizer to grow their own life, is done for the horror factor (highest probability). In reality conquering a planet is as simple as nuking the surface then moving the entire fleet onto other target planets while a small contingency force is sent down to the planet to eradicating all other sentient life under and upon the surface. Then in some cases the alien races unleases their own plants and life forms upon the surface in effect making it their world. I find it strange that no movie has depicted an alien race attacking Earth when it has an established and full operational, formidable, Earth defense force.

Battlestar Galactica
All of the Battlestar Galactica productions have a common premise: In a far away part of a fictional universe, a civilization of humans live on a series of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. The Colonies, in the past were constantly at war with a cybernetic race known as the Cylons. With the help of a human working with the Cylons (Baltar)the Cylons launch a blitzkrieg, surprise attack upon the Colonies, laying waste to cities and eradicating entire populations. The handful of human survivors flee into deep space aboard any ship available. The rest are abandoned for eradication. Sounds like a case of un adequate military defenses to me! Of all the Colonial Fleet, the Battlestar Galactica appears to be the only military capital ship that survived the Cylon surprise attack. Under the leadership of famous military leader Commander Adama, the Battlestar Galactica and its crew take up the task of leading the small fugitive fleet of survivors into space in search of a fabled refuge planet known as Earth.

Comments: I like how the human space fighters have the ability to turn around, cutting engines while firing at a target behind them, very realistic if the proper technology is implemented. I don't like the way that none of the human characters have any extreme powers ex telekinetics or self generated force field. I find it strange that in the end, when they do find Earth it is occupied with primitive human life.

Star Wars
Star Wars is depicted in a far away fictional Galaxy, though also a probable future. The first sentiments start to evolve culture 7,500,000 after the battle of Yavin. The story line is based on one rebellion after another the light side doing battle with the dark is a constant theme in the Star Wars universe.

Comment: The force also known as Chi is an interesting concept, especially the depictions of one person bringing entire star ships crashing upon planets with the use of telekinesis aka Force. The use of a melee weapon (light sabers) also is interesting and very useful for opening large metal doors and slicing opponent's up.
The problem with the Star Wars universe is a lack of teleportation and cloaking technology for large battle ships (perhaps in the future of Star Wars). Hyperspace is one thing, but to have an entire enemy fleet appear within your solar system without even being in your know galaxy is a crapper.

Robotech
In the Robotech fictional or probable future event(s) planet Earth is engulfed in a global civil war. During the conflict a massive alien spaceship crashes onto an uninhabited island known as Macross island. Confronted with the probability of a potential alien invasion the people of Earth ceases the conflict. The new technology obtained from the ship is dubbed “Robotechnology” This technology is used to create a flying fortress known as the SDF-1 and fighters that can transform into humanoid like mechs known as Vertices. The creators of the alien ship soon discover it's location and attack with the intent of retreaving their property. The SDF-1 teleports into deep space causing the attacking alien race known as the Zentraedi to pursue drawing them from Earth. The SDF-1 slowly returns to Earth under constant attack, though the leaders of Earth request that they leave in order to draw the enemy away. The Zentraedi a giant, genetically engineered alien race designed only for war. Becomes exposed to Earths culture. Such concepts as love, dancing and singing are unknown to them until their interactions with humans. Many Zentraedi like human culture and start defecting in droves. The supreme commander of the Zentraedi Dolza. Considers the spread of human culture within his ranks as a ‘contamination’. Dolza personally enters Earths solar system with a fleet numbering in the millions with the intent of exterminating humans and their contagaues culture. One of Dolza’s commanders Breeti defects and joins the people of Earth, bring with him a large alien force. Despite their efforts 75% of the planets surface is vaporized in a hail of laser beams and nuke strikes. 90% of the worlds population is wiped out in moments. Though against all odds the SDF-1 with the help if Breeti destroy Dolz’a flagship throwing Dolza’s fleet into disarray, giving humanity's forces enough of an advantage to win. I’m only going to disclose the beginning the rest you have to find out your self.
Comment: This is a series with a long and interesting history. I don’t have many bad things to say, its an interesting storyline and the Veritech's are extremely dynamic fighting machines that make for interesting combat sequences. Though they lack cloaking technology! The fact that we get attacked for harboring a crash landed alien ship suggests that our exopolitics weren’t proper or we weren't thinking and greed set in. Exopolitics and proper thinking is the first line of defense.

Dune
In the fictional probable future of dune the human race evolved upon Earth (old Empire) then achieved the light speed. Making it possible to explore and colonize the universe, as the human race expanded into the far reaches of space it became complacent and a rebellion took place launched by a group known as the Titans, humans that put their brains into massive mechs known as cymeks, they eventually conquer and enslave most of humanity. Many years later the cymeks along with a large portion of humanity are enslaved by the cymeks own creation, an artificial intelligence known as Omnius aka Evermind. The Evermind was defeated eventually. After the defeat of the Evermind, self aware artificial intelligence was outlawed in the known universe and strictly reinforced. As well as outlawing artificial intelligence many human royal family’s rose to achieve profound power and controlled entire planet's and the universe, organizations and factions, also share the Galaxy with these royal family's. The known universe has one supreme leader known as the Emperor and his royal house maintains the laws of the empire, while ensuring that everything is running smoothly. In order to navigate through space selected individuals use a substance known as melange, that enhances abilities and increases life span though it is also highly addictive. Because of such excessive use by the navigators they become something that looks very un human and live in tanks filled with the swirling melange. Much of the story is based on struggles for power and control of the drug known as melange aka spice. Intertwined in the story is messiah’s and religious fervor. The good and evil side isn’t as clear cut as in Star Wars universe.
Comment: There isn’t any known interaction with alien races and when the author does elude to alien races he seems to lose his energy. Besides that very interesting story, though I don’t like the lack of Alien race interaction, unrealistic unless they exterminated all sentient alien life in the known universe (old empire actions perhaps?). Considering how much some people hate each other because of minor differences in skin color, I can just imagine how much a large percentage of the population of present day Earth would react to alien race with fur, wings, skin that glows and reliance upon water to breath. Hitler just happened and that sort of irrational genetic hatred doest’t disappear quickly. How was he irrational? He was killing any man that didn’t look like him (Caucasian). He suffered from aesthetic based vanity, the most pathetic form of vanity of them all. Anyway, Dune is a great philosophical journey with a very unique story line.

Star Trek
The United Federation of Planets (also known as "The Federation" or UFP) is a fictional or yet to happen galactic federal republic as seen in the Star Trek television series and motion pictures. In those episodes and films, the Federation is described as an interstellar federal polity with (as of 2373) more than 150 member planets and thousands of colonies spanning across 8,000 light years of the universe, the form of government is a liberal democracy and constitutional republic. Star fleet is the name of the Federations defense and exploration branch. The main focus of the movies is Star Fleet and the Federation of planets, with the exception of Star Trek Enterprise, it takes place before the Federation comes into existence. The Federation lives by the values of universal liberty, equality, justice, peace, and cooperation. The Federation engages or is engaged by major military powers in the galaxy such as the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union, the Borg, and The Dominion.
Comment: The ideal and idea is great, though the one problem is their fleet. Over reliance upon large visible frigates and capital ships. In reality a large attack force of small fighters would devastate such a fleet. Another problem is their engines, on many of their ships once the shields have been destroyed the propulsion system is easy to destroy due to its placement upon the vessels. Another thing is the human crew lacks any super human abilities, though they are intelligent.
